"MAN OF THE HOUR" SINGLE... Pearl Jam's new song, "Man of the Hour," is now available as a CD single for purchase exclusively at http://www.pearljam.com through January 23, 2004. Written by Ed Vedder, "Man of the Hour" was created solely for the upcoming movie, "Big Fish" after Pearl Jam heard thru a mutual acquaintance that Tim Burton would really like for them to pen a song for his movie. First debuted during October's benefit shows, this CD single features a studio version recorded by the entire band at Studio X in Seattle for the movie and includes as the b-side, the original demo of the song as recorded by Ed Vedder on guitar. "Man of the Hour" will be out on the "Big Fish" soundtrack December 23, but because the movie people were so open and cool about it, you'll be able to pre-order the single on pearljam.com and get it sooner. "Big Fish" is directed by Tim Burton and stars Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, and Jessica Lange. Look for "Big Fish" in theatres this holiday season. GIMME SOME TRUTH... The MoveOn.org Voter Fund is launching "Bush in 30 Seconds," a political TV ad contest to help them find the most creative and memorable ideas for ads telling the truth about George Bush's policies. Eddie Vedder is one of the many judges which include Moby, Michael Moore, Tony Shalhoub, Mark Pellington, Jack Black, Janeane Garofalo, Gus Van Sant and others. Contest rules and dates are posted on http://www.bushin30seconds.org/. The contest begins on Nov. 24th and even if you aren't planning to enter, you'll be able to vote on submissions. Top rated submissions will then be voted on by the panel of judges. FAN CLUB HOLIDAY SINGLE... The cut-off date to join the fan club and receive the 2003 Christmas single is November 25. PEARL Rumor: Pearl Jam's song, "I Am Mine" is used in Warren Miller's new film, "Journey" in a moving tribute scene to the late snowboard pioneer Craig Kelley, who died in an avalanche last year in British Columbia. JAM Fact: True. ~Q&A~Q&A~Q&A~Q&A~ Q: Which cameras were used at MSG? Is it the same cameras used to film the shows for TB2K, or are they clearer digital cameras? A: We used different cameras this tour. The Canon XL 1's and GL 2's were used giving the DVD a softer, clearer picture than TB2K. Q: Is Live at the Garden available on VHS? A: It will be all DVD release; there is not much demand for VHS these days. Q: Which solo Dead Man performance of Ed's is on the DVD? From which show? A: It's from the Holmdel, NJ show. Q: Have any songs been re-recorded in the studio just for Lost Dogs? A: Just a couple of band-aids applied. Q: Are there any appearances or tours and when will the band be in the studio again? A: Nothing at this time and look for them to enter the studio again some time in 2004. Q: I missed the window of opportunity...is there any way to get the bootleg from the show June 21, 2003 - Alpine Valley Music Center; E. Troy, Wisconsin? A: Sorry. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Q: Why is "Brother" just an instrumental and the lyrics not included? A: That was what the band wanted. Q: Why was the song Angel removed from Lost Dogs? I really wanted to hear that one. A: Once again, the wishes of the band. Q: Mike's been rehearsing with the Rockfords. Is it for an upcoming album or shows? A: An upcoming EP and some shows in Seattle. Q: Who does the band support for President? A: The best candidate. Q: Will any of the recent benefit shows be released either on CD or DVD? A: Let’s hope so, and if released, the CD or DVD would be available on tenclub.net/pearljam.com. Q: With the guys free from Sony, are they leaning more toward signing somewhere else or are they thinking indie? And, if indie, will they go it alone? A: We'll see, but freedom feels good for now. Q: Is Boom an official member? I believe he was listed as one on the Showbox DVD credits, but I could be wrong. A: Boom plays when Pearl Jam plays for now. Q: Is Stone's middle name Carpenter or Carpender ? A: Carpenter. Q: What are some of the things the guys do to pass the time away while traveling from one show to another? A: Knitting is a big hit on the plane these days. Origami too. ~ TEN CLUB Q &A ~ Q: Any idea on how the new ticketmaster ticket selling policy will affect the Ten Club or Pearl Jam's future touring plans? A: Minimally, let's hope. Q: Will 10c offer merchandise and memorabilia from past years? A: We might resurrect some old designs, but don't hold your breath for the stickman. Q: How many fan club members are there in South America? UK? A: UK = 900. South America = a couple of hundred. ~GEAR Q &A~ Q. Do you know what kind of guitar strap Ed uses? A. Ed uses black Levy’s “M-12XL” leather guitar straps on his guitars. The “XL” refers to extra-long. The straps do not come standard with the 1” holes punched in them, however; Ed’s guitar tech, Rick Weinman, manually punches out the circles to give the strap Ed’s custom look. Schaller strap locks are used on all of Ed’s guitars and straps. Q. I am wondering what kind of guitar(s) Ed has been playing on the Riot Act tour. I know the one I am thinking of he used at the April 25, 2003 concert in Cleveland on the song Corduroy. There is a picture of it in the Synergy photo gallery. It seems to be a blue or green color. Can you help? A: On the 2003 Riot Act tour, Ed used (for the first time) Gibson “SG”s as his primary instrument. He had several on tour including a vintage 1967 Burgundy-Mist (w/tremolo), and two limited-edition “Pete Townshend Signature” models (one standard-painted brown, one custom-painted black). But Ed’s main SG model was a blue/teal “Flip-Flop SG Special” (as seen in the picture). In all cases of the non-vintage SGs, the original stock Gibson pickups have been replaced with Lindy Fralin “P-90” pickups. A couple of the SGs have also had Bigsby tremolos installed. Q: I'm a drummer and think Matt rocks. I have been having blister issues lately. I know that lots of drummers wear gloves when they play. I also know that Matt wears gloves when he plays from time to time. My question is what type of gloves does Matt wear? A: Matt's drumming glove of choice is made by Beat-O. Unfortunately, they’re no longer manufactured so as a good second choice, Matt also recommends the glove made by Zildjian. Heard Rumors? Have Questions? Ask, We're An Ear.
